  BECOME A VOLUNTEER

Big Dreams & Silver Screens & Westfield International Film Festival are exclusively run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers give countless hours of time to make our events possible. Most are film-lovers or filmmakers themselves and are passionate about sharing the world of film with others.

Interested in becoming a volunteer?
Be a part of the team!

We are looking for people with an interest in film, event planning, marketing, the entertainment industry, or anyone looking to get involved in a local community event!

Contact us and we can find a role for you!

All volunteers will receive an All-Access Volunteer Badge, free staff t-shirt, and will gain all-access to all film screenings, seminars and after-parties at all of this year's events!
Volunteer Roles for Pre-Events:

Street Team (currently open) - We need local volunteers to help promote our events at Westfield town events, distribute flyers or posters around the local surrounding towns such as Westfield, Cranford, Scotch Plains, Clark, etc. This is a great opportunity for students seeking easy volunteer hours for school!

Film Screening Committee - We need reliable and trusted team members to help assist with screening the hundreds of film submissions we receive each year. Over a span of over a month, members will be given private access to the films and a detailed rating rubric to score them and share notes. Films with the highest scores will be considered Semi-Finalists to be reviewed by the WIFF Festival Directors. Film-related experience, reviewing/writing experience, or a knack for analyzing and critiquing movies is a must!

Marketing / Social Media -  We need help spreading the word about the festival! Possible responsibilities include:

  • Aid in researching marketing outlets.

  • Assist with social media marketing by consistently posting to WIFF's social media sites.

  • Post to filmmaker, actor, artist blogs, forums, websites, etc.

  • Help write press releases & media alerts.

You can also do your part by sharing our Facebook posts on your own Facebook.  Word of mouth is our best form of advertisement!

Volunteer Roles for Events:

Ticketing - We will need friendly & trustworthy volunteers to help check-in guests & collect/sell tickets. Volunteer will be provided an iPad with the EventBrite app, which will be used to collect cash and swipe credit cards. Money-management skills a must.

Usher - For each film block, ushers will pass out programs, check tickets, help guests find seats, & help manage guest traffic.

Greeter - Before & in-between film blocks, friendly volunteers will greet guests at the front entrance. The venue will get a lot of pedestrian foot traffic passing by, so we need volunteers to help foster interest in the event and answer questions. If you are a people-person, this role is for you!

Volunteer may be provided a tablet to use, or if not available, may be asked to use their own smartphone to connect to the venue's WiFi.

It is preferred that the Videographer provide their own camera (we may have other video equipment available if needed.) This volunteer will manage the flow of traffic on the red carpet, keep time spent on it concise, identify V.I.P guests and filmmakers (wearing VIP / Filmmaker badges) to usher them to the red carpet for interviews, and partner with the Videographer assigned to red carpet to get the shots and footage we need.

Director's Assistant - This position reports directly to the Festival Directors.  The ideal candidate is eager to learn about the behind-the-scenes of organizing a festival.  The director's assistant will have various responsibilities prior to and during the festival event at the directors' discretion.  This may include assisting in event-planning, scheduling, running errands, and coordinating special guests.
